The major difference, I've noticed, is the careful attention to empty space within the arrangements. You just don't see the heaping bundles of flowers here. For better or worse, space is considered to be as beautiful as the blooms. The design is delicate. From what I’ve observed, and for obvious reasons (Japan is packed with people), the appreciation of space seems to be a common thread running through all Japanese design.
